Silvermine's Rich History in the Arts
Silvermine has a rich history in the arts and many famed artists hail from here. The rich history takes shape in the early 1900's in famed sculptor Solon Borglum's barn. It was here that a group of artists would meet to exchange ideas and critique each other's work. This group became known as the "Knockers Club". In the 1920's, as the group outgrew its humble beginning, they incorporated to form the Silvermine Guild of Artists. Today, the Silvermine Arts Center is still a hub for some of the most talented artists in the Northeast with over 300 artist members many having work represented in permanent collections of some of the world's most prestigious museums, as well as prominent private and corporate collections.
