Past Exhibit – June 2013
The “Knockers on Paper” exhibit, was an exhibit of the works of twenty-four Silvermine artists from 1908 to 1922. These “Knockers” as they were called are the original band of artists who founded the Silvermine Arts Center. On display were works by Brinley, Daggy, Hamilton, Gruelle, Gutmann, Schmitt, Yahn, and more. The pieces are colorful and many are of Silvermine scenery. Visitors were able to recognize some of the buildings and landscapes of Silvermine. It was a very special exhibit with many paintings, drawings, and sculpture. The show ran from June through the end of August 2013. The Silvermine Community Association hosted a private reception for members to review the works, hear about them, and mingle with fellow Silverminers while enjoying complimentary Prosecco and Chocolates
A guest speaker talked about the Silvermine Artist Colony as the predecessor of the Silvermine Guild of Art established in 1922. All works are in the dedicated Silvermine Room of the New Canaan Historical Society, 13 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan.
